Everybody that I know loves the Queen but what is going to happen when she dies and the title of King is bestowed on Prince Charles. Is he loved like the Queen? Will he be respected or will UK turn republic?
What are your thoughts?

Will he be respected or will UK turn republic? What are your thoughts? Never will we be a Republic, tried that once and it never worked out, Oliver Cromwell was a complete failure. One good thing came out of it was the Houses of Parliament, and the King or Queen head of state. No, Charles is not liked by a lot of the people, who want him to stand aside for eldest son Prince William and Kate who is adored by the public and it will be a longer reign than Charles because he is getting on a bit. Now you can go to bed and sleep in peace and not worry anymore about the Royalty. By the way, don’t put a picture of Charles up yet, Elizabeth ll has a few years left yet, she is reluctant to let go of the reigns yet. Just saying. |

I think Prince William will make a very good King when he eventually gets there. Charles? No so sure how he will get on.  |

I think Charles is too old to be a King now. Has he been tested for dementia for instance. Being in your 70s taking up a HUGE job like that would be daunting and why would young William want to be stuck having to listen to some dopey politician once a week if he replaces Charles?
The stellar work ethic of the Queen is unbeatable. Imagine William trying to fill his grandmothers shoes?

What George VI and Mary did for the country was followed was followed by their daughter Elizabeth. In these modern times I doubt there will ever be a monarch like these. But let's remember that the Queen is simply titular head of state. She has very few powers that she could use except in an emergency. We are essentially a democracy. The only time the Queen really has a say is when a bill of Parliament affects the Royal Family. It then needs the Royal CONSENT. Acts of Parliament are given the Royal ASSENT to become law. It's known that the Queen has offered advice on a bill, but has never refused her Assent (Signature). Not happened for about 300 years. I doubt the Queen will ever abdicate but could step down, allowing Charles to become Regent in her place.
I've been a Royalist/monarchist from the time I was able to understand the term. I served the Queen as an 'erk' in the RAF 1958-1963 and have remained in favour of the Monarchy since. Despite the ups and downs of the Royals, they are human and have the faults and failings of every family.
The future role of the Monarchy must be in doubt given the times in which we live and immigration of people who have no understanding of the Royal Family. At 83 it's not my problem.

The times they are a changing rather fast, so maybe the monarchy will change with them, tho who can tell what form that might take..

Charles has worked damned hard in making the Duchy of Cornwall a thriving business to the benefit of the Crown, himself and the vast amount of money used for charity. William and his wife are no different to any other family in their fads and fancies, moods etc. They are different only because of their position and the amount of work done for the State, Charities etc. Don't expect them to be perfect. |

I think Charles is great bloke however he hasn't been treated too kindly by loathsome journalists over the decades turning Diana into a saint and Pr Charles into pondscum. So amongst the young, he doesn't rate at all. And without WA even asking, he sent a large donation to our cyclone damage. Cyclone Seroja 2021. He cared. Our eastern states couldn't give a flying freight train about WA unless it's got its sticky paws in our mines. They aren't aware WA contributes 48% of exports. Finally after me bleating on twitter, facebook and forums their po-faces are starting to take notice but I am not persuaded. Too little too late. I am going to laugh when the mines slow up or cease. |

YOu can sometimes tell much from someones face and charles has a nice face.. Could it be that a persons 'inside' is projected onto their 'outside'? |

Prince Charles did it all to himself with out anybody's help, Diana was a Saint compared to him. Pity he didn’t do the same for the people who were flooded out of their homes and had to pay for the storm damage themselves. Yes he did take the trouble to come and see the damage and commiserate with the people who were flooded out. Trouble with that, words don’t help, I have a photo of him talking to my youngest son and wife, they had their dog with them. He was more interested in the dog, and asked what breed it was. My son said, exactly, it’s a crossbreed not a thoroughbred. Never came back later to see how they all was coping, the visit just makes him look good making people think he cares. Just saying. |

Oh boy... you do realize that no soldier or military person in the UK or anywhere else like Australia, Canada or New Zealand can move a plane, ship or tank or soldier to war unless the Queen signs off on it first right...? Nor can ANY LEFT OR Right Government rule unless they have the Queen's permission first. If that isn't POWER I don't know what is. It isn't true she has no power. She is THE MOST powerful person on the planet and that is the throne Pr Charles is inheriting. |
